Davie High students are invited to attend summer enrichment field trips. These experiences include museum visits, industry tours, college campus tours, and a hands-on science lab.
For the first time, these enrichment trips are available to ALL Davie High students as our school moves “Full STEAM Ahead” and seeks to offer these opportunities to every student. Students will also have the opportunity to use these trips as part of their requirements for becoming Distinction Graduates.
Information for each trip is listed below, along with links to register for each. More trips and opportunities are still in the works, so be sure to check back throughout the summer to see when new events are scheduled.
Current Trips
7/9/25: High Point University
A tour at High Point University is a great place to start thinking about your college options. Join us for a campus tour of HPU. Our trip will include an overview of the types of programs offered at this university, a spiel from admissions counselors, and a walking tour of the whole campus. Early exposure to college campuses is valuable regardless of where you eventually attend.
7/14/25: Hickory Museum of Art
Join us as we travel to Hickory to tour The Hickory Museum of Art and explore their diverse collection, ranging from American art to Southern folk art and other changing exhibitions. Learn the history of the Catawba Nation with a number of immersive exhibits exploring the past, the present, and the future lives of indigenous populations. On this trip, we will also complete a short art project as a token of our visit. You may visit the museum gift shop, and we will also stop for lunch on the way home (lunch place TBA).
7/17/25: Lam Museum of Anthropology & Mrs. Hanes' Moravian Cookies
We will first travel to the Lam Anthropology Museum on the Wake Forest University campus for a program called Mythology: Gods, Goddesses, and Monsters where we will be looking at images, videos, and objects to learn what mythology is, discuss why mythology has been and continues to be an important part of cultures around the world, create a Roman-inspired glass mosaic, and participate in a museum scavenger hunt. Then, we will stop at Chick-fil-A for lunch before heading to Mrs. Hanes' Moravian Cookie Factory for a behind-the-scenes industry tour.
7/24/25: Cognition Davie Design Challenge
We will meet at Davie Cognition in downtown Mocksville (not at the high school: there is no bus for this trip).
Join us in a fun and hands-on experience! Put your problem-solving and teamwork skills to task as Davie High students interact in a specially created Design Challenge.
7/29/25: Homeland Creamery ~ Julian, NC
Join us as we travel to Julian for a tour of Homeland Creamery--a working dairy farm/creamery. Students will experience a hay ride, a visit to the dairy education center, and a sample of homemade ice cream. The tour will take us throughout the farm where we will see dairy cows and learn more about how a dairy farm actually runs. You might want to bring a lunch or snack for the ride home.
NOTE from Homeland Creamery: If you have recently been out of the country, we kindly ask that you refrain from visiting our farm for at least 30 days for the protection of our animals.
8/6/25: NC Transportation Museum & NC Research Campus ~ Spencer and Kannapolis, NC
Join us as we travel to the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer. Students will get to experience activities to learn more about the Wright brothers and flight, the steam locomotive, and Morse Code with a glimpse into the 1940s US Army Hospital car and a 1920s US Post Office car. Then we will stop for a quick lunch where students can choose between Jersey Mike’s & Chick-fil-A (with a Starbucks & Sweet Frog close by) before traveling to our next destination at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis where students will get to do a science lab with a scientist from the Plants from Human Health Institute.
