Beth Edwards, Principal of Central Davie Academy has worked with at-risk youth in North Carolina since 1993. Her experience includes years spent as a counselor at Barium Springs Home for Children and Foothills Mental Health. In 2001, she began working with the alternative school in the Iredell-Statesville school district and continued her work with North Carolina's at-risk youth.
Beth was instrumental in the development of new alternative programs in Iredell- Statesville Schools. Four unique alternative programs were created to serve students from twelve local middle and high schools. Her role in developing and implementing successful alternative programs led to opportunities to present at several state conferences and act as a consultant with other school districts. Additional opportunities included the development of further alternative programs in the Iredell-Statesville school district in partnership with Barium Springs Home for Children. Her enthusiasm regarding alternative education is contagious and she is committed to the academic and behavioral success of all children.
Beth was hired by Davie County Schools in 2006 to create alternative programs to serve at-risk youth in Davie County. She completed an application to create a school in spring 2006 and the department of public instruction approved her alternative programs proposal. Central Davie Academy became the 10th school in the Davie County School district and has completed three successful years serving Davie County's most at-risk youth population. Each year, Central Davie Academy has provided educational opportunities to over 400 students in grades 6-12.
Beth spent her first 17 years of life in Minnesota as the youngest of four children. Just prior to her senior year of high school, her father accepted a job transfer to Austin, Texas. Beth completed high school in Texas and attended Southwest Texas State University where she received a Bachelors Degree in December, 1992. During this time, her father accepted another transfer position to Charlotte, North Carolina. This inspired Beth's early graduation and decision to move to North Carolina in early 1993. Beth completed a Master of Arts degree from the University of Greensboro in 1999 while continuing to work full time and start a family. She earned a second master's degree from Gardner-Webb University in School Administration in May 2007.
